It takes a lot of discipline and practice to achieve spiritual fulfillment, but the long-term benefits are unmatched. For those who have an important spiritual life for them, there is no more worthy endeavor.

Can I Get Spiritual Power Through Meditation?

Some people mistakenly believe that the goal of practicing spiritual meditation is to achieve “superpowers” such as telepathy, the ability to heal oneself and others, knowledge of past lives, visions of the future, levitation, and so on. Surely there will be a snake oil guru who will promise them almost anything they can imagine, as long as they sign on the dotted line.

The allure of fantastic spiritual powers can overshadow the simple beauty of the practice of spiritual meditation. Spiritual awareness begins with being honest and kind, and with our commitment to becoming the best human being we can be. A strong desire for magic and miracles makes it very difficult to recognize and appreciate the wonder of being alive and all that makes this possible. What could be more miraculous and magical than the air we breathe, the sunlight we enjoy, simple acts of kindness and compassion, interconnection, and daily blessings of all kinds? The gentle appreciation of the present moment and an attitude of benevolence toward all living things are the true fruits of spiritual awakening.

Keys to Successful Spiritual Meditation

The first step is to really get to know yourself. You’re likely to focus on the roles you’d like to change on your own, like almost everyone who commits to self-knowledge. With spiritual meditation, recognizing and accepting who you are is the first step to truly making friends with yourself. Meditation teacher Pema Chödrön puts it very well in her book Start where you are: “It is unconditional compassion for ourselves that naturally leads us to unconditional compassion for others. If we are willing to put ourselves in our shoes and never give up on ourselves, we can put ourselves in the shoes of others and never give up on them. ” Accepting who we are makes it possible for us to accept others as they are. When we connect with what is sacred in ourselves and in others, “giving up” is no longer an option.

So you can stop worrying about having spiritual experiences in meditation, gaining spiritual power, and attaining “spiritual enlightenment.” What a relief! Instead, here are some tips to help you be real and work on yourself:

  1. Release any resentment you have been harboring

It can be extremely difficult to forgive someone who has hurt you or someone you care about. But as your spiritual meditation practice is established, you will realize that maintaining resentment only hurts you and does nothing to help others. The sooner you forgive, the sooner you can release that pain and move on. Do not let the refusal to forgive hinder your journey to spiritual awareness. You can train your mind to let go by practicing mindfulness and wishing happiness to others. It may take time, but letting go is the obvious antidote to enduring the pain of resentment.

  1. Focus your spiritual aspirations on others

True spirituality focuses on benefiting others, but to do so we must first start with ourselves. By looking at our own mind, we learn to accept who we are with tenderness and benevolence. Then we can extend this tenderness and benevolence to others. As we continue our spiritual practice, we see that the more we focus on the benefit of others, the less we tend to worry about our own desires and frustrations. We begin to realize that we are all just trying to be happy; we are all doing our best to avoid pain. In that sense, we are all equal.

As the Dalai Lama puts it: “I often joke that if you really want to be selfish, you have to be very altruistic! You should take care of others, care for their well-being, help them, serve them, make more friends, make more smiles … ”It may seem contradictory, but we see clearly that the more energy we devote to others, the happier we are. . we become.

From the smallest insect to the most powerful ruler, we all seek to ensure our well-being and avoid suffering. Also, none of us could exist without the others. Guided spiritual meditation can open us to the truth of our interconnectedness and help us relativize our individual importance. There is great freedom in accepting that we are only a small but necessary part of the big picture, a part of cosmic dust in the universe, or just a grain of sand as some say. Instead of being caught up in self-importance, we can open our minds to all the possibilities that this freedom offers us. We can accept the change right now and move toward greater spiritual awareness.

  1. Be authentic

The often-repeated phrase “be yourself” encourages you to stop pretending to be someone or something you are not to please others or cover up your shortcomings. Unfortunately, many people have become so accustomed to living simulated lives that they have no idea how to be authentic, that is, simply to be themselves. If the person you are at home is different from the person you are at work or with friends, you may want to take a closer look at this behavior to see if it contributes to your well-being and that of others, or not. To adopt authenticity is to be honest, transparent and full of integrity. The clarity and openness that the practice of meditation encourages are precious allies on the path to true authenticity.
