The food you eat plays an important role in your overall well-being, this includes your physical body, emotions and mind. In yoga, world food is classified into three types: satvic, rajasic, and tamasic.
These are called “Gunas”, a Sanskrit word meaning “Quality” or “Element” and in turn means the three predominant qualities present in everything, including food. In addition, each type of food affects the physical and mental well-being of your body.

SATVIC FOODS – They are rich in Prana (vital force), help nourish and cleanse the body and mind and are best consumed in 4 hours. from the kitchen. Satvic meals have the highest guna and are an ideal representation of balance and harmony.
A satvic diet is vegetarian and includes mainly cereals, unpasteurized milk, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, vegetables, ghee, seeds and nuts. These foods are light, fresh, tasty and increase your energy, enthusiasm and well-being.
RAJASIC FOODS – is known to provide nervous energy, activity and restlessness; these foods stimulate the body and mind. When consumed in excess, these foods can cause irritability, restlessness, anger, hyperactivity, and insomnia.
Examples of Rajasic foods include: stimulants such as tea, coffee, dark chocolate, spicy and fried foods, onions, garlic, chillies, pickles, meat, eggs, and vinegar, to name a few. some. It is recommended not to consume these foods daily, but occasionally.
TAMASIC FOODS – It has a boring effect on the mind. It slows you down and makes you feel lethargic and disoriented. According to Ayurveda, tamasic foods are believed to slow down the functionality of the mind. These foods generate emotions such as insecurity, jealousy, mood swings, laziness, and reduced disease resistance.
Energy is blocked and toxins are produced when you regularly consume a non-vegetarian diet, rancid foods, excess fats, oils, pastries and sugary dishes. It is best to avoid these foods as much as possible.
Eat well! Look good! Now that you have a basic outline of the types of foods and what categories each of your meals fall into, it gives you the knowledge to plan and modify your diet. Also, remember that it is equally important not only to consume the right kind of food, but to eat the right portion at the right time at regular intervals.
